XP Drive: Input voltage & power range extended!!

sai drive solutions xp drive etl listed class I II div 1 382x

Introducing the second generation of our ETL listed, XP Drive CID1 now including the Yaskawa V1000 Finless VFD.

The new model design allows us to leverage the extended input voltage and power ratings of the V1000 VFD. The XP Drive now supports either 230V or 460V input voltage and offers wider power range from 1/8 HP to 25 HP.

Power ratings

Heavy Duty / Constant Torque or Normal Duty / Variable Torque

- 200-240 VAC, 1-Ph - 1/8 HP to 3 HP (HD/CT)
- 200-240 VAC, 3-Ph - 1/4 HP to 10 HP (HD/CT)
- 380-480 VAC, 3-Ph - 1/4 HP to 20 HP (HD/CT) & 25 HP (ND/VT)

Features

The XP Drive, is a pre-engineered, off-the-shelf, explosion-proof VFD for use within hazardous location Class I & II Division 1 areas. The XP Drive has a NEMA Type 7/4X enclosure and does not use purged air to operate. The XP Drive design allows the VFD to operate by using the enclosure as a passive-heatsink.  The drive has predefined operators and pilot lights. The XP Drive has a number of options including additional operators, lights, powder coated front panel, auxiliary window for digital display of motor RPM or Hz and support for different field bus protocols through communication option cards.

ETL Listed

The new models have been certified by ETL per UL 1203 for use within hazardous location, classified area Class I & II, Division 1.

Mitigation of Transformer Inrush Current

Inrush Phenomenon

It is well known that energizing a transformer with rated voltage can produce a significant inrush current.  Inrush current is a random event which is not predictable and is in general not repeatable.  The magnitude of inrush current depends primarily on the following:

  1. Level of residual flux in the core of the transformer;
  2. Instant in the sine wave at which voltage is applied to the transformer;
  3. Magnitude of applied voltage.

Although the actual inrush current is a random event, it is known that the maximum peak inrush current can occur under the following conditions:

  1. Maximum positive value of residual flux in the core;
  2. Energizing the transformer at the instant the voltage is at the zero crossing in the sine wave;
  3. The applied voltage is increasing in the positive direction to add to the positive level of flux.

The following technical paper presents a method to mitigate inrush current when energizing large power transformers from a limited supply such as a generator or weak distribution system.
